All you need are poker chips, a deck of 52 cards and three buttons: the Dealer, the Small Blind and the Big Blind. The Small Blind is the person who sits on the left of the Dealer, and the Big Blind is the next to him. The blinds have to pay a fixed amount of chips before the dealer gives any cards. The Small Blind usually pays the half of the Big Blind. The term 'blind' is came from this: you have to pay before you can see your cards.
The Dealer shuffles the deck and gives two cards to all players. After the players see their cards the player who sits on the left of the Big Blind can raise. Every player has to decide if he wants to play or not. If you want to stay in the round you have to pay the same amount of chips as the Big Blind put in (call) otherwise you have to fold your cards. You can also raise the amount of chips if you want and from then every other players have to pay the raised amount if they want to stay in the round. Of course, the next player can raise, too, but nobody can raise after the round is over.
After everybody calls or folds, the dealer burns one card (burning means placing the next card upside down next to the deck) and puts three cards on the table so everybody can see them. These three cards are the "flop". The players can use these cards and their own cards together to make the best possible combination of the 5 cards. It is forbidden to touch the cards laying on the table, you have to combine them only in your head. After the flop has come, beginning from the Small Blind all players have the right to raise again. If you don't want to raise the pot you can also check (not raising) by saying "check" or knocking twice on the table. If someone else has raised before your turn and you don't want to call that you have to fold your cards. As earlier, nobody can raise after the round is over.
The dealer burns a card again and shows one another card. This card is the "turn". The players can use the cards on the table and their own cards together to make the best possible combination of 5 cards. You can use 3 cards from the table and 2 cards from your hand or 4 cards from the table and 1 card from your hand.
After the next raising round the dealer burns one another card and shows the last card. This card is the "river". The players can use these cards and their own cards together to make the best possible combination of 5 cards.
After the last raise round the last player who raised shows his cards to the other players. If nobody raised in the last round the Small Blind shows his cards. All the other players can fold their cards or show them if they can beat the others' cards. It is possible to show only one card from your hand if you use 4 cards from the table. The winner is who the highest cards. His award is to get all the chips from the pot. If two players have the same value of cards they split the chips.
The Dealer, the Small Blind and the Big Blind buttons migrate to the left and the game continues with the next round. The game ends when one of the players gets all the chips (or all players get bored).
If you want to be a good player you have to practice a lot. It is useful to join a free (or small stake) online poker site to practice when there are no friends to play with.
